Reptiles and Roads: What We Know and What We Need to Learn
摘要
Reptiles are often overlooked when considering the environmental impact of roads: most reptiles are small, not a human safety hazard, and not charismatic to the public. Owing to reptile demography, natural history, and relations with humans, however, roads and road traffic may have a severe deleterious impact on reptile populations. Research attention on how reptiles interact with roads and on options for addressing the effects of roads on reptiles is ongoing. Nevertheless, there remains a need to identify which road impacts most threaten reptile populations, and what options are most effective at avoiding, mitigating, or offsetting the negative impacts of roads and road traffic.
