The Introduction will begin with a definition of creativity and then move on to the creativity process in therapy, exploring the benefits for those engaging in creative methods. The next topic to be discussed will focus on the power of symbolism and metaphor in creative methods. This chapter will draw on existing theory and the author’s experience of adopting a pluralistic approach to creativity therapy. The attention will then move to how a creative intervention can be unstructured or structured depending on the context and the individual characteristics of clients/supervisees/students who engage in creative work.
