The Impact of Chatbots on Cognitive Offloading: Between Capacity Optimisations and Risk of Dependency
摘要
This research aims to explore the impact of using chatbots as educational tools on the learning of university students, in particular we try to understand the impact of schoolwork; on cognitive load reduction between capacity optimization and addiction risk. Through two assessment tests, we will examine to what extent the excessive use of artificial intelligence could affect the intellectual abilities of 200 students at Mohammed First University OUJDA. What are the possible risks of under-utilization of our own cognitive abilities? Based on these assumptions, we intend to collect elements of response through an exploratory analysis of the data in order to discover potential anomalies. Examination of the results, in the framework of the cognitive load model (Sweller, Cognitive Science 12:257–285, 1988) proved the effectiveness of AI chatbots to reduce extrinsic load. On the other hand, the impact is limited on the intrinsic load, even more so on the germane load. In addition, the information collected shows an average form of addiction among students.
