From Battlefield to Brainfield: The Evolution of Generational Warfare and the Rise of Cognitive Sovereignty
摘要
This opening chapter establishes the conceptual, historical, and ethical architecture of Generational Warfare, positioning conflict not merely as the continuation of politics but as the evolving grammar through which humanity negotiates power, identity, and truth. It traces warfare’s transformation from the disciplined formations of the Westphalian age to the algorithmic frontiers of the twenty-first century, revealing how shifts in technology, cognition, and legitimacy have continually redefined both the conduct and meaning of war. Drawing upon an integrated theoretical framework—merging Realism’s structural imperatives, Idealism’s normative aspirations, Constructivism’s interpretive turn, Hegemonic Stability Theory’s systemic logic, and AI and Cognitive Systems Theory’s epistemic innovation—the chapter situates each generation of warfare as both a strategic system and a moral discourse. By juxtaposing Eastern and Western traditions—from Sun Tzu’s harmonics of deception and Confucian legitimacy to Clausewitz’s trinitarian realism and contemporary algorithmic statecraft—the chapter articulates a cross-civilisational dialogue about how societies legitimate force, shape perception, and engineer order. Methodologically, it adopts an interdisciplinary synthesis—bridging historical empiricism, comparative case reasoning, and analytical foresight—to interpret warfare as a dynamic interaction among material systems, cognitive architectures, and ethical codes. In doing so, the chapter anchors the book’s central claim: that the evolution from kinetic to cognitive and quantum-inflected warfare reflects a deeper ontological shift in human self-understanding. Ultimately, this chapter serves as both foundation and invitation. It sets the intellectual and methodological tone for the monograph’s subsequent analyses, framing war as a profoundly human enterprise in which the contest for dominance is inseparable from the struggle for meaning, legitimacy, and survival in the age of artificial intelligence.
