“My rank is kind of high, not to diss you guys”—Situated Player Identities
摘要
Constructing player identities is done in various ways within the empirical material, including choice of weapon, weapon skill, weapon customization, stats/rank, and language use. Further, the situated use of these tools is discussed in relation to player customization, competence, and team discourse. However, as online games and associated communities are shaped by an invisible assumption of the default whiteness and manhood, we first explore the structures which made it possible for the participants to construct such identities in the first place.
