With rapid advancements in technology and wireless communication and the growing number of interconnected devices among individuals, there is a constant ask for these devices to be as power efficient as possible and be inter-connected for as long as possible. This requires wireless communication mechanisms to become more power efficient along with being consistently available to cater to ever increasing use case demands. The paper focuses on providing a host + hostless solution for wearable devices which can be later also expanded to other IOT segments. The paper discusses the mechanism for combining host + hostless approaches from Bluetooth application perspective to achieve better power numbers with an overall lower footprint. The idea is to send and receive raw HCI commands from application to the controller and receive back corresponding events for activities like Scan and Advertisements. This reduces the reliance on Bluetooth host layer for performing these activities and can help with reducing power consumption and achieve better latency as fewer hops of message packets from application to host will be involved. The hosted solution continues to be present for cases where more complex use cases are required, and it is an overkill for the application to frame and receive HCI packets for these complex usescases.
