While the Quarto of The Parliament of Bees, published in 1641, has been reprinted in various scholarly editions, the manuscript (written sometime in the 1630s, most likely), has not been transcribed, notated, and published. The manuscript, while similar to the posthumously published Quarto, contains remarkable differences in verse, narrative structure, and “bee-ness.” Puzzlingly, a central figure from the manuscript—Stuprata—is cut from the Quarto to the detriment of the poem.

摘要

While the Quarto of The Parliament of Bees, published in 1641, has been reprinted in various scholarly editions, the manuscript (written sometime in the 1630s, most likely), has not been transcribed, notated, and published. The manuscript, while similar to the posthumously published Quarto, contains remarkable differences in verse, narrative structure, and “bee-ness.” Puzzlingly, a central figure from the manuscript—Stuprata—is cut from the Quarto to the detriment of the poem.
