Microfinance and Rural Household Progress in Bangladesh: Insights from Moral Drivers
摘要
This study explores the impact of interest free Islamic microfinance on the wellbeing of low income borrowers in rural Bangladesh. Drawing on data from 192 participants engaged in two leading Islamic microfinance programs, Rural Development Scheme (RDS) and Muslim Aid Bangladesh (MAB), the research assesses improvements in household income, consumption, asset ownership, and overall quality of life. Using multiple linear regression analysis, the findings reveal that access to interest free microfinance significantly enhances borrower wellbeing. Moreover, the study highlights how non financial elements embedded in Islamic microfinance models, such as ethical guidance and structured community engagement, may contribute to these outcomes. These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and development practitioners seeking to integrate financial inclusion with broader social upliftment, especially in Muslim majority rural settings.
