Analysis of Income Smoothing Practices in the Banking Sector: Its Impacts and Challenges in Detection Using Digital Technologies
摘要
This research explores income smoothing practices within banking institutions while examining their effects on financial system stability and the reliability of financial statements. The study examined the motivations and goals that prompt banking authorities to utilize different income smoothing strategies such as accounting adjustments and reclassification measures. The research examined how digital technologies and forensic simulation approaches like ratio analysis and Benford's Law techniques help uncover income smoothing practices to ensure financial transparency. The research findings indicate that income smoothing within banks produces stable profit appearances but excessive implementation of these techniques damages financial statement quality and transparency. Forensic accounting techniques were discovered to be essential for identifying accounting manipulations which results in improved financial data reliability. The research finds that improved accounting transparency together with better utilization of digital technology and stronger regulatory awareness will enable earlier detection of income smoothing practices.
