Integrative Review of Self-Transcendence Theory in Nursing Practice: Applications, Outcomes, and Implications for Elderly Care
摘要
This paper aims to provide an integrative review on the use of Self-Transcendence Theory in elderly care with regard to self-care, meaning in life and subjective well-being. Six studies from different cultural and clinical backgrounds proved the applicability of the theory and usefulness in increasing resilience, self- determination, and spirituality. Some of the outcomes are self-care agency, meaning-in-life and emotional resilience. Nurse-patient communication, family and health related factors were other important themes. However, there are limitations to the available longitudinal patient data and cultural applicability of the theory; therefore, the findings support the relevance of this theory in enhancing the development of the comprehensive, person-oriented approach in nursing.
