I adhere to relational mentoring that focuses on an individualized, needs-based model that has demonstrated long-term positive outcomes, considers the aspirations of the mentee, and their growth and development. In this chapter, I will discuss my mentoring philosophy and roles I occupy currently and across the years. My core philosophy centers on relationships and supporting the vision, goals, and direction of the mentee. While I advocate for all my students, I play an especially important role for students who regularly encounter epistemic exclusion within the institution, leading to narratives and cultural misinterpretations that must be countered in order for the student to succeed and complete their degrees. Faculty also need connection, support, resources, and safe spaces to propel their success forward within the institution. I believe the philosophy and practices associated with relational mentoring must be delivered with love and demonstrated commitment to the mentee and to social justice.
