When studying the formation of these prostitution districtsProstitution district, it is impossible to discuss them without considering the existence and influence of political powersPolitical powers. It is also necessary to clarify how the bodies and sexualitySexuality of stationed soldiers/prostituted womenWomen were controlled in urban spaceUrban space, in view of the fact that the Allied Forces, so to speak, was a gendered spaceSpace where only those with biologically “male” sexualitySexuality belong, and where “masculinity” was always required. My study takes a genderGender and sexualitySexuality perspective on the existence of political powersPolitical powers (the control and influence of powerful entities such as the state, local governments, organizations, and individuals) that operates in and influences urban spaceUrban space, and locates prostitution districtsProstitution district as a consequence of the complex intertwined power relations of diverse people reflected in urban spaceUrban space. The author will discuss in detail the process of formation of one prostitution districtProstitution district, referring to administrative documents and newspaper articles of the time, and will discuss not only the historical problems experienced by the Japanese people, but also as contemporary world issues regarding the management and control of urban spaceUrban space.
