摘要
Modern science—particularly physics, neuroscienceNeuroscience, cognitive science, and psychology—offers prima-facie challenges to the possibility of free will. Physicists may offer us the worry that the laws of nature are the only determinants of (what we take to be) our actions. Psychologists might suggest that our early upbringing shapes our later decisions to such a degree that most standard free-will assumptions are confused if not simply false. Here I will focus on the special challenges posed by modern neuroscience.
