摘要

Most countries face a world with a large and growing number of air and ground-level Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) threats, such as drones and cruise missiles. For the security purpose nations must develop effective defenses against these types of threats. Researchers have given various solutions to address this problem. The traditional missile defense systems using kinetic energy against UAVs and cruise missiles, but this technology faces limitation in their caliber to stop the threats, fast moving targets (future hypersonic missiles) or those with advanced evasive maneuvers. Laser-based systems, while offering advantages in cost and potentially the fastest response times due to the speed of light, precision and high accuracy to demolish the target. In this paper, we discuss about the high energy laser weapons, their main component, enhancement of laser power beyond the current obtained laser power and limitation. From application perspective portable laser systems for infantry use, Space-based DEWs for anti-satellite roles and Integration with AI-driven targeting discussed at length.
