This chapter explores the complementary role of autonomous adaptation in enhancing spatial responses to climate change in Indonesia. It argues that the decision-making of property buyers, shaped by market forces and risk perception, plays a critical role in influencing spatial patterns and exposure to climate-related hazards. The work draws on the Source-Pathway-Receptor-Consequence (SPRC) framework, wherein property buyers are conceptualised as receptors who voluntarily adapt through location choices. We employed a structured narrative review to explore the conceptual framework of autonomous adaptation, drawing on rational economic theory and the hedonic pricing model. By integrating the global and local empirical literature, this chapter proposes recommendations for policy implications, particularly Law No. 24 of 2007 on Disaster Management and Law No. 26 of 2007 on Spatial Planning, considering spatial planning as an adaptation instrument that complements mitigation measures to tackle climate change.

摘要
