In this chapter, we introduce the basics of communications, particularly the algorithms and mechanisms of particular importance in ISAC. We do not plan to systematically introduce the aspect of coding, source or channel, despite their importance in digital communications, since they are less related to ISAC. The readers are referred to the classical textbooks [41–44] for more systematic introductions to modern communication systems.
