Work-Life Balance of Women Civil Servants in Nepal: Navigating the Complexities of Dual Responsibilities
摘要
This study explores the challenges faced by women civil servants in Nepal in achieving a work–life balance through a qualitative case study approach. In-depth interviews were conducted to understand their daily struggles in managing professional and personal responsibilities. The findings show that work–life imbalance arises less from personal weaknesses than from structural barriers such as rigid workplace rules, unhealthy organizational cultures, and persistent gender bias. Disproportionate domestic responsibilities and limited career opportunities add further strain. Women civil servants adopt strategies such as careful planning, prioritization, stress management, and family support, yet these efforts remain insufficient to counter systemic barriers. The study highlights that work–life balance is not only an individual task but also requires structural changes in both institutions and social norms to promote genuine gender equity in the civil service.
