The Twofold Securitization of Italian Settlers to Libya
摘要
By examiningLibya the documentation held at the Archivio Storico Diplomatico of Ministero Affari Esteri (ASDMAE) and the Fondazione Migrantes, this chapter investigates the dynamics prompting the securitization of Italian settlers in Libya after the coup carried out by Muammar al-Qaddafi in 1970. To this end, the chapter will first analyze the context in which the regime of Muʿammar GaddafiGaddafi adopted the procedure of confiscating Italian goods and their subsequent expulsion from Libya. It will then highlight how Italians of Libya, once they returned to ItalyItaly, encountered various difficulties in integrating into their motherland because of decisions implemented by policy makers and the negative reaction of civil society. Finally, the chapter will investigate how the economic and commercial interests linking the two countries undermined the full reintegration of the settlers expelled from Libya into Italian society.
