As the energy industry faces mounting challenges—from aging well infrastructure and increasingly complex operating conditions to the global imperative for low-carbon technologies—well integrity management must continuously adapt and improve. The chapter highlights key areas shaping the future of integrity assurance, including ongoing research in advanced barrier materials, evolving plug and abandonment (P&A) practices, and the critical role of well integrity in enabling energy transition applications such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), underground hydrogen storage (UHS), and geothermal energy.
