To stimulate the acceptance and integration of death in our lives, the “three pillars of wisdom” are presented: (a) taking distance from one’s immediate stream of emotions and experiences; (b) entering into dialogue with the other with the intention to empathically understand and respond to other people, the other-in-the-self, and nature; and (c) being able to take different perspectives of not only other people, other cultures, and other beings but also the different and contrasting components of our own selves (like my life and death). The final conclusion of this chapter is that wisdom offers an ideal framework for viewing death as enriching our individual lives, our culture, and our ecological environment.

摘要
