Embryological Rare Liver Tumors
摘要
Various neoplastic entities can arise in the liver, originating from hepatocyte, biliary, or mesenchymal cells. While differentiating benign from malignant tumors is crucial, clinical symptoms, laboratory tests, and imaging features are often nonspecific, and thus, the differentiation of these lesions is difficult. Histological features, immunochemical staining, and molecular testing can provide important diagnostic and prognostic information and guide the treatment selection. Hepatic tumors occur less commonly in the pediatric population than in adults. Up to 70% of pediatric liver tumors are malignant and associated with a poor prognosis (Newman, Semin Pediatr Surg 1(2):145–151, 1992). Surgical resection is usually the treatment of choice for localized diseases. More recently, prognosis has improved with improved multimodal treatments. The aim of this chapter is to provide a brief overview of uncommon hepatic tumors affecting the adult and pediatric populations.
