Long Covid or Post-Covid -19 Neurological Syndrome?
摘要
Long COVID is a widely used but vague term that includes a broad range of ongoing symptoms following infection with the virus that causes COVID. Among these, a clear neurological syndrome is emerging. Post-COVID Neurological Syndrome, or PCNS, is now recognized as a distinct condition that includes symptoms such as cognitive dysfunction, persistent fatigue, poor memory, autonomic instability, and mood changes. This chapter examines why PCNS should be viewed as a separate clinical entity rather than being grouped within the general category of Long COVID. It explores the biological, clinical, and systems level differences between PCNS and other post-COVID conditions. Drawing on findings from the World Health Organization, national inquiries including the Australian Parliament, and patient advocacy reports, we argue that PCNS must be clearly defined, diagnosed, and addressed within clinical and research frameworks. This distinction is not only important for accurate diagnosis and care, but also essential for building targeted research programs and reducing the stigma experienced by many patients. Recognizing PCNS as a brain centered disorder with its own characteristics is the first step in providing the support, services, and solutions that affected individuals urgently need.
