This paper presents antenna solutions to improve the communication quality between drone and ground stations. Conventionally, dipole and monopole are commonly used as they can provide wide coverage with omnidirectional beams. These types of antennas work with linearly polarized (LP) radiation, which limits their operation in multipath propagation environment. Additionally, low gain radiation is also another issue as this antenna parameter strongly determines the communication distance of the drones. In this paper, the omnidirectional circularly polarized (CP) antenna is presented as a solution to overcome the limitation of the conventional antenna in multipath interference suppression. Meanwhile, omnidirectional beam also ensures the wide coverage of the antenna. Another solution is to design multi-directional beam antenna, which has capability of switching its radiation among different directions with high gain performance. This helps to significantly increase the operating range of drones.

摘要
