A Study on Hemodynamics of Brain Prefrontal Cortex During Visuospatial Task Using fNIRS
摘要
Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a neuroimaging modality which detects changes in concentration of oxygenated (HbO) and deoxygenated hemoglobin (Hb) in the brain. The aim of this study is to analyse brain prefrontal cortex since it contributes to critical functions like decision making, planning, and reasoning by designing a Corsi-Block Tapping Test (CBTT) with an inhouse developed 8 channel fNIRS device. fNIRS working relies on the changes in the absorption characteristics of the light that is shined onto the surface of the prefrontal cortex. Customised 8 level CBTT test protocol was designed using visual studio code. Totally, 24 healthy adults were participated in the CBTT and their subsequent fNIRS signals was recorded. Results showed a significant HbO increase in the right prefrontal cortex during the CBTT task phase, while Hb remained stable, confirming right-hemispheric dominance in visuospatial working memory.
