The ‘Local’ and the ‘National’: Kinetta (2005), Dogtooth (2009), and Alps (2011)

Following from Chapter 1 , the main focus of this chapter is the formation of Brechtian uncanniness in Lanthimos’s distinct cinematic language, the main theme and argument of this book. The chapter discusses Kinetta, Dogtooth and Alps in terms of the BrechtianBrechtian tradition, a tradition prominent in modern Greek cinemaGreek cinema particularly in the films by Theo AngelopoulosTheo Angelopoulos. Angelopoulos’s films arguably showed future Greek filmmakers, including Lanthimos, the possibilities Brechtian cinematic form can offer.
