This chapter explores the connection between climate research and climate politics. `Climate change´ is at the same time a pressing social and political challenge and a complex field of scientific inquiry. This requires a nuanced understanding of the (limits) of scientific knowledge in democratic decision making processes and the discussion of political and normative reasons to reject scientific knowledge claims. The chapter will present climate politics at the intersection of “politicised” science and “scientized” politics and explains how scientific research on climate change can be used and abused to back or challenge political agendas.

摘要

This chapter explores the connection between climate research and climate politics. `Climate change´ is at the same time a pressing social and political challenge and a complex field of scientific inquiry. This requires a nuanced understanding of the (limits) of scientific knowledge in democratic decision making processes and the discussion of political and normative reasons to reject scientific knowledge claims. The chapter will present climate politics at the intersection of “politicised” science and “scientized” politics and explains how scientific research on climate change can be used and abused to back or challenge political agendas.
