The European Sustainability Competence Framework (GreenComp): Introducing the Context for Investigating Learning for Environmental Sustainability

This chapter establishes the scope and structure of the volume by introducing the geographical area under investigation and providing an overview of the policy context of the European sustainability competence framework—GreenComp. It highlights connections between the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and environmental sustainability learning, demonstrating how the TIMSS questionnaires correspond to the GreenComp framework. The chapter concludes with an overview of the subsequent chapters in this volume, outlining how each addresses different dimensions of environmental awareness and sustainability within the contexts of TIMSS and GreenComp.
