Indigenous Ownership in Canada’s Energy Transition: A Pathway to Sustainable Infrastructure Development
摘要
This chapter investigates the rising trend of Indigenous First Nations groups acquiring significant ownership stakes in large-scale energy transition and infrastructure projects across Canada. Utilizing data from applications for pipeline and energy infrastructure construction considered by the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) and insights from the Indigenous Resource Network Report on Indigenous Equity Deals in Canada, our analysis highlights the evolving financial and regulatory landscape that facilitates such ownership. Indigenous ownership not only represents a shift towards more inclusive and equitable energy development but also underscores the critical role of Indigenous communities in the sustainable energy transition.
