Harnessing the Hive Mind: Corporate Social Media and the Power (and Peril) of Crowds

This chapter introduces the concept of prediction markets and the wisdom of crowdsWisdom of crowds in corporate decision-making, highlighting how artificial intelligenceArtificial intelligence can enhance or undermine these systems. Drawing on historical and modern cases, it demonstrates how crowd-based intelligence, when guided by well-designed AI models, can often outperform traditional top-down expertise. At the same time, it cautions against the risks of algorithmic manipulation, filter bubbles, and echo chambers, where AI systems may unintentionally reinforce biases or misinformation.
