Smart Asset Investments: Key Drivers of Wealth Building Among Generation X in Malaysia
摘要
The increasing financial independence of Generation X in Malaysia presents an attractive phenomenon in asset acquisition behavior. This study explores the determinants influencing asset purchase intention among Generation X, focusing on capital gains, financial stability, and lifestyle adaptation. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this research examines the interplay between financial literacy, economic security, and generational behavioral tendencies in shaping investment decisions. A structured quantitative approach was adopted, with data collected from respondents across Malaysia. Using multiple regression analysis, findings indicate that capital gains significantly drive asset acquisition among Generation X, suggesting a strong preference for appreciating assets as a wealth-building strategy. Financial stability also plays a pivotal role, highlighting the necessity of secure income streams and economic resilience in investment decisions. Furthermore, lifestyle changes emerged as an essential determinant, emphasizing the evolving consumption patterns and aspirations of this generation. Despite these positive correlations, financial constraints, macroeconomic fluctuations, and risk aversion pose challenges to asset acquisition. The study underscores the need for targeted financial planning initiatives and policy interventions to enhance financial literacy and investment awareness among Generation X. These findings provide valuable insights for financial institutions, policymakers, and asset managers in developing tailored investment solutions that cater to the evolving financial needs of mid-life investors. Future research should incorporate a longitudinal approach to track behavioral shifts over time and explore qualitative dimensions to gain deeper insight into the psychological factors influencing asset purchase decisions. By bridging the gap in generational investment behavior, this study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of financial decision-making dynamics within Malaysia’s economic landscape.
