Headache disorders, such as tension-type headaches, migraines, and cluster headaches, are a significant global public health concern. The burden of headache disorders is higher in urban areas, particularly in major cities, compared to rural areas. With increasing urbanization in various communities across low-income countries, the prevalence of headache disorders, including the associated economic loss, may increase. Despite the significant burden, there is a worldwide neglect of this major public health problem. including inadequate responses to headache care in countries throughout the world, surprisingly, even in high-income countries. To reduce this burden, headache services need to be integrated into the pre-existing healthcare systems in a logical manner that will aid timely diagnosis, efficient treatment, and appropriate referral for complex cases. This chapter, therefore, discusses the determinants of headaches as driving forces behind correct diagnosis and effective treatment, the situational analysis of the healthcare delivery system, including the challenges militating against its operational strategies, the key opportunities to leverage for efficiency, and suggested recommendations for a smooth integration of headache services into the pre-existing healthcare system.

摘要
