Personal avatars are avatars that represent actual people. They are trained on a particular person’s data to look, behave and interact like them. Such avatars can help overcome problems of capacity and capability—they can help us to be represented in more than one place at a time and they can help us to undertake tasks that we might find difficult or unpleasant. However, as such avatars are not controlled directly by the person that they represent, they also present an attack on our personal autonomy, making us less able to control actions that are undertaken in our name and that, in many cases, may be attributed to us.

摘要

Personal avatars are avatars that represent actual people. They are trained on a particular person’s data to look, behave and interact like them. Such avatars can help overcome problems of capacity and capability—they can help us to be represented in more than one place at a time and they can help us to undertake tasks that we might find difficult or unpleasant. However, as such avatars are not controlled directly by the person that they represent, they also present an attack on our personal autonomy, making us less able to control actions that are undertaken in our name and that, in many cases, may be attributed to us.
