How to Ensure your Climate Messages Inspire Climate Action: A Step-by-Step Guide
摘要
The National Network for Ocean and Climate Change Interpretation (NNOCCI) has worked for more than 15 years to improve national climate change discourse through leveraging the capacity of educators in informal learning centers to engage millions of people each year to foster public understanding and dialogue about climate change. The strategies include teaching effective, social science-based approaches to facilitating conversations and network-building to provide social support and continued learning opportunities. In this chapter, we provide tips for how to strategically frame climate conversations, including using shared values, explanatory metaphors, and community-level actions. We also discuss the importance of cultivating hope and engagement, addressing emotional responses to climate change, increasing self-efficacy in educators, and promoting equity-based community involvement in climate action. By framing conversations positively and focusing on actionable steps, NNOCCI empowers educators and the public to act constructively on climate issues. We end the chapter by inviting readers to join this community to help foster a hopeful, civic-minded, and solutions-oriented dialogue around climate action.
