Educating for Climate Action and Justice: Developing Guidelines for Excellence
摘要
Climate education can play a crucial role in raising awareness and understanding of climate change, its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. However, it must go beyond learning about climate science and include building individual and collective capacity for effective and just climate action. The question is: exactly what should excellent programs entail? To help address this question, the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) used a broad-based, participatory process to develop guidelines focused on climate education and justice as part of their Guidelines for Excellence series. These guidelines are designed to serve a broad range of individuals and organizations interested in using education as a tool for working with communities to encourage equitable strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate changes. They offer suggestions for creating learning environments that support the development of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to make informed decisions and to act. This chapter details the process used to develop this set of guidelines from conducting background research to interviewing thought leaders to forming a writing team and collecting input from educators from around the world.
