Primary Malignant Melanoma of the Vulva and Vagina
摘要
Malignant melanoma is an aggressive disease that affects both skin and mucosal surfaces. Primary malignant melanoma of the female lower genital tract, including vulva and vagina, are rare subtypes with a poor prognosis and high mortality, often affecting the older population. This disease accounts for approximately 5% of all vulvar malignancies [1], although the incidence is increasing [2]. Primary vaginal melanoma is an even less common variant. The literature regarding these types of melanoma consists of case series, but there are no high-quality data sets such as randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Primary surgery remains an essential part of treatment for these lower genital tract malignancies, despite the lack of RCTs for guidance.
