This chapter addresses We Need New Names by NoViolet Bulawayo as a world-making narrative of resistance against the unworlding of the protagonist’s original world, which is caused by the colonial, postcolonial and neo-colonial history of Zimbabwe. The first section analyses the unworlding perpetrated by the consequences of neo-colonialism in Zimbabwe; the second section discusses the unworlding experienced by the protagonist in the United States; the third section reflects on the brief moments of re-worlding present in the final part of the novel.
