In this chapter, the understanding of lovingness/unlovingness—that is, of a loving or unloving responsiveness—developed in Chapter 5 is explored by means of five examples: 1. the love a moral-spiritual authority may show to an advice-seeker; 2. Jesus’s love towards the man possessed by a host of demons; 3. the love one may show in trustingly opening one’s heart to another; 4. the loving spirit of Deryl Davis’s engagement with hateful KKK members; 5. the loving (and unloving) responsiveness towards a beloved. The main aim of this chapter is thus to develop a sense of what it may mean to respond lovingly in different situations and under different circumstances.

摘要
