In this survey we discuss the exponential stability of the solutions of some transmission problems consisting of a beam coupled to a string and this in turn coupled to another beam in the following two situations: first when the entire structure is damped and second when only the string presents a frictional type of damping. In addition, some results of exponential stability will be presented when a certain type of localized damping acts only on the string. The exposition focuses on recent results in [5, 6].
