A malformative cyst is defined as a non-tumoral fluid-filled collection exerting a mass effect on the brain. Most such cysts are detectable after 15 weeks of gestation. The designation of the different types of cysts is based predominantly on the lining of the cyst wall. Ventricular diverticulae along with congenital arachnoid and choroid plexus cysts and cisternae, as well as olfactory and vermian cysts are illustrated.
