In this chapter, we discuss the significance of the mathematical models of living systems developed in the course of the preceding two chapters. It will be seen that what makes a living thing the kind of thing it is in contrast to non-living things transcends the physical realm of the contemporary physicist. This calls for bringing the notion of Platonic soul back into perspective—a radical departure from the pervasive physicalism of our time and a return to Platonic philosophy with far-reaching ramifications for the scientist and the philosopher alike.

摘要

In this chapter, we discuss the significance of the mathematical models of living systems developed in the course of the preceding two chapters. It will be seen that what makes a living thing the kind of thing it is in contrast to non-living things transcends the physical realm of the contemporary physicist. This calls for bringing the notion of Platonic soul back into perspective—a radical departure from the pervasive physicalism of our time and a return to Platonic philosophy with far-reaching ramifications for the scientist and the philosopher alike.
