Supporting Program Director Well-Being
摘要
There are significant stressors associated with the program director (PD) role. The administrative burden is especially heavy and includes both internal, institutional, and departmental expectations, as well as additional responsibilities related to accreditation requirements. Program directors often feel underappreciated and experience incursion of work duties into their personal lives, as they are frequently the point of contact for any trainee- or faculty-related issues after hours. These stressors contribute to a high rate of burnout, which in turn raises the risk of unprofessional behavior or departure from the role. Implementing mechanisms to support program director well-being is essential for retaining talented and experienced individuals and for maintaining healthy training programs.
