The Arctic is becoming increasingly important at a strategic level for the United States, China and Russia, and so the examination of military issues is also receiving increasing attention. Given that Central Europe is indirectly linked to the Arctic through NATO and the European Union, this issue should also be also examined in our region. The unique climatic characteristics of the Arctic have a significant impact on military operations, including combat, logistics and communications, but even survival is a challenge there. One segment of this area is the issue of providing adequate supplies to soldiers and the challenges that come with it. This paper focuses specifically on the question of water supply for soldiers in Arctic conditions, detailing the difficulties caused by the climate and their impact on the supply of soldiers. This includes freezing temperatures, variations in daily water consumption and transportation, among others. After outlining the problem, the paper will also look at possible solutions, including equipment and procedures. Options for keeping water warm, means of transport and delivery in the form of ice will also be explored. Several options will be presented, like one used in the USA or in Norway. The study draws primarily on experience from previous military exercises and academic work.
