Application of Digital Survey Tools to Screen for Child Maltreatment Among Secondary School Students in Vietnam
摘要
Effective data collection and management are vital for research, and digital tools are increasingly used to streamline processes and reduce errors. For a study on child maltreatment in Vietnam, we selected a digital survey tool to manage and visualize sensitive data. We conducted four phases: document review; testing KoboToolbox for lean operation, skip logic and validation criteria; a pilot survey; and a main survey with 2326 students aged 12–15 at eight schools in Bac Giang province. We compared digital survey tools and paper-based platforms to choose the best method for screening child maltreatment. KoboToolbox proved convenient, time-saving, and free, with validation features to reduce data bias and a user-friendly interface for both experts and students. Its offline capabilities addressed connectivity issues in local settings. KoboToolbox was selected for its ability to construct sensitive questionnaires, enhance data collection, and improve quality, contributing to a better understanding of child maltreatment in Vietnam.
