This brief paper puts forth the following idea: non-symbolic intelligence (NSI) might constitute the ‘dark matter’ of A(G)I. It is argued that while almost all branches of AI research to date has been exclusively focused on computation in some form, it is beneficial to consider a complementary notion - that of NSI, which is computation-free. A variety of non-symbolic examples of natural (biological) intelligence as well as human-made ones is presented as evidence for this notion of NSI. The goal is to help broaden the very concept of intelligence, which in turn might inspire more robust AI/AGI architectures in the future.

摘要
