This chapter focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, specifically in the translation classroom. Our main argument is that these concepts should be central in translation programs when striving to ensure that students are equipped to make sure that tomorrow’s language is representative of a fairer society. That emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion can manifest itself in the ways in which students are addressed, in the teaching strategies that are put forward and in the materials that are selected. This chapter offers an overview of the current context in higher education. This includes issues and challenges that students face as they navigate obstacles they may encounter, as well as those educators face as they try to make their classroom more inclusive. To this end, techniques and strategies that can be put in place with varying degrees of commitment and effort from educators and programs will be explained. These possible solutions involve: expanding beyond Canada’s official languages; using inclusive language and content; undertaking authentic translation projects; and promoting community translation.
