For almost three centuries, newspapers were only published in print. Only at the end of the 20th century, with the advent of new technologies and the World Wide Web, these media began to expand into the digital medium. In contrast to the printed version, which always has the exact dimensions, the devices determine how the content will be viewed in the digital medium. This new multiplatform reality means that interfaces must be designed to cater to readers’ wide range of devices to access information. This article forms part of a broader master’s research project and aims to understand how journalistic infographics are adapted for different devices, particularly within the Portuguese newspaper PÚBLICO. Various methodologies were employed in the research: literature review, interviews, direct observation, and the development of a digital infographic (for digital and print media) in the context of an internship at the PÚBLICO newspaper. The methodology used made it possible to establish the theoretical basis of the investigation – understanding the trajectory of infographics within the journalistic context and the changes in the area with the move to digital media – and to learn about current practices in the newspaper’s Infographics section. This research has shown that the professionals who develop them recognise the importance of adapting digital infographics to suit various access contexts. However, the effectiveness of their adaptation is often influenced by factors such as deadlines and the professionals’ knowledge, who frequently assume responsibilities that diverge from their original training area.

摘要
