A New Architecture of Power: Infocracy, Surveillance, and Entertainment
摘要
The development of information networks and systems has radically transformed the ways in which information is produced, circulated, and received, now proliferating at a vertiginous pace through mass and digital media. A naïve view of information tends to emphasize only its potential benefits, neglecting the problematic effects associated with contemporary Information Regimes: the degeneration of democracy into infocracy, the consolidation of a new frontier of power grounded in Surveillance Capitalism, and the progressive gamification of social dynamics, aimed at optimizing individuals’ voluntary coercion. Within this framework, design and digital communication play a structuring role, translating these logics of power into tangible artifacts that shape perceptions, subjectivities, and social practices, while simultaneously being capable of reinforcing or contesting such dynamics. Accordingly, this paper offers a critical analysis of these issues, highlighting how they coexist, intertwine, and reinforce each other cyclically, serving as a point of departure for more in-depth and comprehensive future research.
