Augmenting Creativity through Game Design: A Synergistic Approach to Creative Literacy
摘要
Creative behaviors are essential for innovation and organizational success in today’s dynamic workplace. To address this need, we propose cultivating Creative Literacy, the ability to augment creativity by designing and playing video games. Video games can foster creative attitudes by combining skills, ideas, and knowledge, while also supporting collaboration, which is an essential factor in creative work. Building on this premise, our research extends earlier work that introduced a theoretical framework linking game mechanics, actions, and dimensions to creative contributions. This framework enables mapping the influence of the previous components to design game flows for augmenting creativity in specific contexts. In this paper, we apply the framework to a collaborative game prototype built around the framework’s Synergy action component. The prototype was developed through a Design-Based Research methodological approach, which has proven effective in previous studies. The prototype’s development had three goals: refining an earlier game design using the framework, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration between undergraduate and M.Sc. research, and bridging learning practices with industry needs in game development. Finally, we present the prototype, analyze it in relation to the framework, and discuss its potential to foster collaboration and creativity, offering insights for future research on games and creativity.
