MgO Addition to Pregnant Liquor as an Alternative Approach to Improve Product Hydrate Whiteness
摘要
In Bayer processBayer process, the whitenessWhiteness of hydrateHydrate is critical parameter in applications like cosmetics, filler, and high-end ceramic. All alumina refineriesAlumina refinery use the recycled Bayer liquorLiquor for aluminaAlumina extractionExtraction, and use of different additives in refineries adds up the impurities in liquorLiquor. Over a period, the impurities build up and reduce the whitenessWhiteness of the hydrateHydrate, and the impact diminishes when addition is curtailed. In this study, innovative approach of adding MgOMagnesium Oxide (MgO) in Bayer liquor was investigated to understand its impact on whitenessWhiteness of hydrateHydrate. The controlled MgOMagnesium Oxide (MgO) dosing alters the liquorLiquor chemistry and affects impurity incorporated during hydrateHydrate precipitation and suppress the effect of the humates and other organics impurities of recycled liquorLiquor on the product hydrateHydrate. The findings suggest, precise addition of MgOMagnesium Oxide (MgO) can enhance hydrateHydrate whitenessWhiteness from 84% to 90%. The qualityQuality of Bayer liquorLiquor is unaltered in terms of causticityCausticity and ratio in the Bayer processBayer process.
