Estimating Toughness Limit of Cast Aluminum Alloys with Reduced Pressure Test
摘要
Defect-free castingCasting begins with melt cleanliness and mold filling (i.e., well-designed runner systems). Failure of one of these main components has a significant negative impact on the qualityQuality of cast part. Three different mold designs were investigated where 10 cylindrical bars were cast by using A356 alloy. The reliability of the results was evaluated using Weibull analysis and survivability plots. It was found that the highest reliability and reproducible results with the highest elongation at fracture was obtained when tilt castingCasting was used compared to the gravity castingCasting with counter-gravity filling. A direct correlation between Reduced Pressure Test results, bifilmBifilm index and mechanical propertiesMechanical properties were proposed.
